The air was thick,
With fog and fear,
I trembled in an alley, all alone,
The world had tossed me aside,
My mother trapped and beaten.
It was me, just me, truly all alone.
I tried to cry, but no tears came out,
Tried to bark, to find no sound,
Tried to move, to find no strength,
I really would die, all alone.
My drooping ears caught a sound,
I tried to shrink away in fear.
A young girl, crouched beside me,
that creature all alone.
She stretched her hand out,
I raised my head,
We saw each other’s perfection.
Looked beyond our so-called mistakes.
I heard her whisper ”I’ll care for you”,
My heart once shattered ,
Began to mend…
Together we ran, we leapt, we loved,
A life I led beyond imagination.
Magically our bond grew strong.
My 3 legs and her 3 limbs fitted together always.
The world may have judged us, found us ‘not normal’,
But that never mattered to us, not once.
Through summers and winters,
Through rain or shine,
I walked beside her proud.
Until I couldn’t…
Days went by and I knew it was time,
Slowly I prepared her,
But she prepared me too.
I lay my head in her lap and let her cry,
I looked into her eyes,
And wished her silently.
Goodbye my friend,
And thank you
For never leaving me all alone.
