As the sun rose, it brought with it as sense of hope. Perhaps today would be the day, the day that
had been eagerly awaited. A little Daisy flower sitting in a crack on the road tiles, exhausted and
scared. The little flower hoped for a change!
For the past few months, the Daisy had been growing (just barely). Somehow it stretched its roots
and drank scarcely from a small puddle. Being stuck inside the crack it had nowhere to go and no
space to move.
Everyday trucks and cars would race over and around it. The undergrown flower trembled and
quivered with fear. One wheel over it and the flower would be dead! When the trucks roared and
passed by the Daisy would crouch down scared even to move a muscle.
A drought was beginning in California. The Daisy’s puddle dried up and she was dying of thirst. For
days and days, she suffered, then a miracle descended upon her. Rain! Delightful, Delicious rain! The
flower was ecstatic and for a few days lived in pure comfort.
Then disaster struck, construction began on the roads! Cranes and vehicles collected on the road.
The Daisy was petrified, she wanted life to stay the same.
But just as she was thinking, a man in blue overalls and a yellow hard hat came up. All shrubs and
plants had to be removed before the building began. But just as the man put his hand over the
flower, a little boy came running up. “Dad stop!” he said. The man looked up at his son. Jimmy was
the boy’s name and he loved nature!
Jimmy picked up dad’s shovel and moved the tile. Then with a delicate maneuver picked up the
flower and put it in a pot full of soil. He picked up the pot and gently carried it home. Finally, the
Daisy had a forever home!
